Reading is one of the most important skills we work on at school, from Early Years to 6th Grade. But reading encouragement is more than just choosing a book. If we want children to develop a positive attitude about reading, the first thing we can do is… reading!
There are a lot of ways to help children to choose the right book for them, for example I PICK criteria:
I I select a book and look it over, inside and out
P Purpose: Why might I want to read it?
I Interest: Does it interest me?
C Comprehend: Do I understand what I am reading?
K Know the words: Do I know most of the words?
